Ninety-three acres of vineyards containing forty unique blocks of pinot noir, four blocks of chardonnay, and one block of pinot gris—this is our Landmark Vineyards, Hop Kiln Estate.

Located in the historic Middle Reach of the Russian River Valley, our vineyard contains diverse microclimates and aspects from the bench land all the way up to the hilltops with 600 ft. elevation. Each of Landmark’s forty blocks is separated by individual clonal selections of pinot noir. A notoriously fickle variety, each of these clones provides unique characteristics, such as elegance, structure and aging potential. Our blocks range anywhere from 1.7 to 3.3 acres, each of which has differences in their climactic conditions including elevation, soil, and exposure to the sun. This allows our winemaker, Greg Stach, to blend certain clones from different aspects in the vineyard, achieving a greater diversity of flavor profiles and a wine with the perfect balance of strength and grace.Getting to know landmark's hop kiln estate vineyard

With the inaugural 2016 vintage of our Hop Kiln Estate vineyard, our winemaking team performed forty different fermentations to assess what each block would bring to the table. Many winemakers might consider that too time-consuming, but not at Landmark, a winery with unwavering commitment to quality, especially when it comes to Pinot Noir. Creating wines that show complexity at all stages of life, a sense of place, and a true balance between the fruit and French oak is what Landmark strives for with each vintage.

The wild strawberry and raspberry from the Pommard clones and the color and structure of Calera ultimately create the perfect benchmark for Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. With only 170 cases produced, this 2016 inaugural vintage will be released in September 2018. As a valued club member, you will receive first access to this groundbreaking iconic wine from Landmark.
